Couldwell retires from city politics

Peter Couldwell has announced after 21 years as city councillor he will not be running again in the fall election.

By all accounts, Couldwell has left quite a legacy and will be missed.

“On behalf of council and the City of Quesnel staff, I wish Peter the very best and much happiness in the future,” Mayor Sjostrom said.

Godsmack puts rock in CN Centre

I walked into the CN Centre Sunday night as a skeptic of death metal music.

I had heard of Godsmack, the headliners, but had never bothered learning more about them.

To my surprise, as the show began, I found myself slipping into a groove and doing a bit of head-banging.

CDC open house to promote new businesses

Six new businesses located in the CDC building are holding an open house Aug. 27 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.

The businesses began organizing the open house in the spring, as they started to rejuvenate the appearance of their storefronts.

Most of these stores have been open for less than a year.

10 Mile Lake to celebrate BC Parks 100th anniversary

B.C. Provincial Parks are celebrating their 100th birthday this year and 10 Mile Lake Provincial Park is in on the celebration.

With the help of sponsors, the British Columbia Arts Council and Arts BC, the Quesnel and District Community Arts Council (QDCAC) partnered with the Native Friendship Centre to organize a day of fun, Aug. 14, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m at 10 Mile Lake Provincial Park.

Ashleigh Smith Memorial Awards recognize local artists

Last Friday, 12 Quesnel youth received Ashleigh Smith Memorial Awards.

This one-time presentation, hosted by Ashleigh’s mother, Maria Dawson, recognized the youth’s community service and dedication to the arts, especially live arts.

Quesnel’s Amazing Race, amazing….again.

Quesnel’s Amazing Racers collected $6,200 this year, bringing the three-year total to more than $26,000.

Saturday morning, 16 teams raced around Quesnel for the third annual Quesnel Amazing Race.

This year’s edition of the Amazing Race had contestants off balance with a variety of activities.
