High stream flow advisories are warning residents to not only be watchful for flooding in low lying areas but to also be careful around river and stream banks that present a danger, especially to children and pets. Last week, in response to a small peak of the North Thompson River, a helicopter treatment was conducted to treat mosquito larvae in flooded habitats between Darfield and Kamloops. Treatment is resuming in the North Thompson this week as well.

Georgia Clough is a pitcher and 3rd baseman for the Bruins.  She has been playing ball in Barriere for the last 7 years and pitching for the last 4.  Last year she had the opportunity to play in the girls U12 B Provincials with the Kelowna “Heat”.  She was so impressive playing at the “B” level that the Tri City Titans picked her up to go to the girls U12 A Provincials.  It is expected that she will play in the Provincials with both teams again this year.  She has helped Barriere teams to a silver and a bronze medal in two of the last three years of Provincial Championships for her age group.  Georgia is a dedicated, talented fastball player gaining recognition as one of the best pitchers, her age, in the Province.

The funds will be used towards the ‘Celebration of Canada’s first 150 Years’ being held at the fall fairgrounds in Barriere on July 1.  Hayward stated, “We are thrilled to receive this 150 grant to help us in presenting a memorable, fun, and family oriented July 1st celebration for Canada’s birthday.  Thank you so much to the valley’s very own community foundation, and to the Community Fund for Canada’s 150th.”    The Community Fund for Canada’s 150th is a collaborative effort, seeded by the Government of Canada and extraordinary leaders from coast to coast to coast, and matched and delivered locally by Canada’s 191 community foundations, including the North Thompson Communities Foundation.
