BITTERSWEET EVENT: Happy children ran wild under calm, sunny skies Friday night at the Coombs Community Picnic but there was also a bittersweet edge to the event. The picnic was held at the French Creek Community School, one of the elementary schools slated for closure. The focus was on honouring the 102 year-old-school. Those connected to the community landmark made speeches, while other volunteers were honoured for their dedication to local community events. Kids took pony rides, jumped on bouncy castles, got their faces painted, listened to live music and ate free food and treats, including cake featuring a historic photo of the school. Above, one-year-old Jack Moon takes his first pony ride, offered by Tiger Lily Farms with mom, Kristin Elliott, holding his hand.
