RDOS directors ponder revenue shortfall at Campbell Mountain landfill

The regional district board pondered a budget problem over the Campbell Mountain Landfill at the November 15 Environment Committee meeting.

Mayor Manfred Bauer accepts a donation of $750 from the Keremeos Volunteer Fire Department. The money was raised at the pancake breakfast during this year’s Sizzlefest event and will go towards construction of an overhang to the community kitchen behind the Infocentre. The project will be built with donated labour by tradesmen who are also Keremeos firefighters.  Presenting the cheque on behalf of the KVFD are retired firefighters Red Bosscha and Walter Despot.

The mayor received a donation for $750 from former Keremeos firefighters at the November 19 regular meeting of council.

Twin Lakes residents picked up 1,600 pounds of shingles found illegally dumped along the banks of Horn Creek (and some into the creek) that provides water to the whole Twin Lakes aquifer. The regional district was notified of the illegal dump in October of 2011 but declined to pick it up for safety reasons.  It took several residents eight hours and two trips to the dump to collect the refuse.

Highly visible police presence raises public curiousity

Kars Under the “K” presented Similkameen Elementary Secondary School shop instructors Boyd Turnbull and Tom Owen and the shop students with a $1,500 Miller portable plasma cutting system. KMS Tools representative Brian Kohlman delivered the tool on October 30. The wood shop at the school has constructed a cabinet to store all the tools the “Kars” organization has  donated to them over the years .
