The new kiln was heated with an Energex system that used shavings from the planer mill that had been pounded to dust in a hammer mill - a major cost saving and state-of-the-art at the time. On the right is the planer mill while the long building at the back is the sorter and dry chain. The sawmill itself would have been to the left of the photo.
