B.C. businesses urged to Get Pink’d for breast cancer, Oct. 27

Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, BC/Yukon Region invites people in offices, places of work, schools and clubs or groups to wear something pink and show their support for a future without breast cancer

Vancouver – The second annual Get Pink’d! Day will occur Oct. 27. The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, BC/Yukon Region invites people in offices, places of work, schools and clubs or groups across B.C. to wear something pink and show their support for a future without breast cancer.

Participating businesses and individuals can sign up online at www.cbcf.org/getpinkd and will receive a Get Pink’d! button for each $5 donation. To recognize their support, workplaces are encouraged to proclaim Oct. 27 as a wear pink-dress casual day.

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer diagnosed in Canadian women (28 per cent of all cancer cases). In 2011 more than 23,000 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and about 5,100 will die from it.

Get Pink’d! Day takes place on the last Thursday of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s the only event of its kind in Canada with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and breast health-related initiatives in BC and the Yukon.

The BC/Yukon Region is one of four regional offices of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, the leading national volunteer-based organization dedicated to working toward a future without breast cancer.
