Nikki Pichert has a dream of one day cleaning up with bath salts.
She’s off to a good start.
Launching Wylde Artisan Bath Salts on Mother’s Day weekend, Pichert has been surprised by her early business success.
“It’s been really rewarding and really well received,” says Pichert.
She first took her salt bath products to the cruise ship market at Ogden Point in Victoria, and sells from a little booth at Sooke Country Market every Saturday.
But before she could even get her feet wet in the business world, other retailers came calling asking if she would be interested in wholesaling the salts. Those business range from local gift shops to bed and breakfast boutiques.
Wylde Artisan Bath Salts offers four product lines: Detox, Refresh, Relax and Love. The bath salts are contained in a glass jar.
Pichert and her boyfriend Riley Erick produce the bath salts from their home on Foreman Heights Drive in Sooke.
It was Pitchert’s interest in living a healthy life that prompted her to start the business.
Seaweed, kale, lavender and rosemary, herb and flowers are used in the salts.
Pritchard believes she’s the only Sooke business produce homemade bath salts.
After graduating from the University of Victoria business program nine years ago, Pichert travelled the world teaching yoga before settling in Sooke a year ago. She would often hand out her homemade bath salts to students after a retreat or seminar.
“Since being home with our new daughter (eight-month-old Mila), we decided to make our bath salt recipes into something we could offer everyone.”
The bath salts start at $14.
The salts are made with west coast inspiration.
Pichert says the bath salts are popular both with locals and visitors.
“We have been completely overwhelmed with all local business owners and residents support to buy locally, and how much people are excited to know the story behind their products, and that they are made from the highest quality ingredients,” she says.
“Many tourists have also been so excited to bring home a perfect souvenir that was made in our beautiful community and with botanicals grown here.”
