Beach Club seeks liquor change

High profile beachfront resort in Parksville seeks license to allow entertainment

Parksville council will include a special comment portion in an upcoming regular meeting to allow open comment on a Beach Club request to allow entertainment in their restaurant and patio.

The resort’s Pacific Prime Steak and Chop Restaurant and Lounge is seeking council’s support for a pending application to the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch (LCB) for a permanent change to their liquor license to allow music and dancing for weddings and other events.

Councillor Sue Powell pointed out the patio is on the water which carries sound well, so she would like to see a wider public hearing than the neighbours that are usually asked for input.

There was some discussion about how far away residents could complain about the potential noise, but it was pointed out anyone can comment in a public hearing.

Powell’s public hearing amendment was added to the recommendation from staff to advertise for and receive written comment.

Council didn’t appear to have much issue with the restaurant’s request. Mayor Chris Burger later told The News that council “is always looking for the public to be engaged in the process.”

He added while the LCB makes the decision, he believes they take council’s opinion and the broader community impact into consideration.

The public hearing will be held as soon as the requirements for advertising and public notice can be met.
