From barbers to politics to historic lantern tours

How quickly the temperatures have changed and the nights are getting darker earlier. Is summer truly over?

There is a new barber in town and they are excited to meet new customers at their location at 105-2355 Millstream Rd. Gibson’s Barber Shop, and soon to be barbering school, opened their doors June 1 and make a great addition to the West Shore. We will have updates for you when the school opens its doors.

Also new to the West Shore is Nirvana’s K9 SK8 Park, located at 136-1047 Langford Pkwy. Here you will find everything for your dog from grooming to daycare to training. Be sure and give them a call at 778-265-2002 to set up a time to have your dog assessed for play at their location.

Organized by the B.C. Sustainable Energy Association, Victoria Chapter, there will be a federal election candidates debate on Sept. 24 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 798 Goldstream Ave. from 6:30 to 9 p.m. This will be a great way to learn where the local candidates stand on renewable energy, green jobs and a multitude of other topics and the impact they will have on future generations.

On Sept. 26 from 7 to 9:15 p.m., grab your coats and step back in time as Fort Rodd Hill opens its doors for an exclusive after dark guided tour. See the gun batteries by lantern light and eavesdrop on re-enactors in uniform going about the daily activities of garrison life. Guided tours leave every 15 minutes and it is recommended that you purchase your tickets early for this ever-popular event. The Lantern Tour is also a fundraiser for the dedicated Victoria-Esquimalt Military Re-enactors Association (VEMRA) volunteers.

Looking for something a little different on the same evening? Then come along to St. Mary of the Incarnation Anglican Church, 4125 Metchosin Rd., at 7:30 p.m. and hear world-class musicians perform Bach cantatas with soprano Nancy Washeim. Come early and get a good seat and enjoy some music by musical masters.
