The South Cariboo Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) is holding its 17th Annual Business Excellence Awards (formally the Academy Awards of Business) and Citizen of the Year Award banquet on April 9 at The Hills Health Ranch.
“The People’s Choice awards – Customer Service and Best Business – will be voted on that evening,” says chamber vice-president Chris Pettman.
Chamber members vote on all other nominations, he says, adding each member is e-mailed or faxed the nominations, and they vote for a winner of a particular category. Nominations are now closed and members need to get their votes in by April 1 deadline, he said.
To be eligible for any of the categories, Pettman says the action must have taken place within 2010, and a business can win that category once every three years. The exception, he notes, is the Best New Business, which is eligible for two years.
Another highlight of the event is the Citizen of the Year announcement, and all nominees are encouraged to come out that evening.
“The winner will not be announced until that evening and all nominees who are attending will be recognized for their work in the community.
“Donna Barnett heads up a group of past citizens of the year and they vote on this year’s entries for the winner.”
If people are worried about what to wear, Pettman notes it is not a formal-attire evening. People should come to enjoy the evening in whatever they feel comfortable in.
Pettman will be the master of ceremonies for the evening, and local singer Candace Copley, 2009 South Cariboo Idol winner, will provide the entertainment.
“Everyone is welcome as this is not only for chamber members but tickets will go fast.”
