SURREY — The computer department at London Drugs in Cloverdale gave a big technological boost to Surrey Search and Rescue.

Cedric Tetzel, London Drugs computer buyer, and London Drugs store manager Edwin Chang recently presented Surrey Search and Rescue with eight HP laptops for their operations.

“The Surrey Search and Rescue team is volunteer run and this donation will be a benefit to our team members,” said Larry Kost, Surrey Search and Rescue (SSAR) vice president.

Surrey optometrist raising money

Surrey optometrist Dr. Sandeep Sidhu of FYidoctors is taking part in today’s World Sight Day Challenge to help people in underserved communities around the world.

Now in its ninth year, the World Sight Day Challenge is a global fundraising campaign to address avoidable blindness caused by uncorrected refractive error – simply the need for an eye exam and glasses.

Today, FYidoctors is holding fundraising events/ bake sales/ silent auctions/etc. to help the more than 600 million people in the world who are blind or vision impaired because they do not have access to an eye exam or glasses. The campaign is run by global charity, Optometry Giving Sight.

“We have supported Optometry Giving Sight for nine years,” said Dr. Sidhu. “Preventable blindness is a solvable problem and we are proud to help give better vision to those in need.”

Participating is easy – simply make a single or monthly donation before the end of October. Residents can make a donation at FYidoctors Surrey, which is located at 101 – 6398 120th St., Surrey.

Surrey’s LMS backs children’s hospice facility

Thirteen was the lucky number for the 13th Annual LMS Charity Golf Tournament, which was held in the Semiahmoo golf resort in Blaine, Wash. The event, hosted by the LMS Reinforcing Steel Group, raised $75,000 for the new Canuck Place – Dave Lede House children’s hospice in Abbotsford.

LMS also contributed $100,000 worth of steel for the new facility.

“It’s an honour to contribute to this important project, which will help meet the growing need for pediatric palliative services for families living outside of metro Vancouver,” said tournament founder and LMS CEO Ron McNeil.
