SURREY — Matthew Stowe, winner of TV’s “Top Chef Canada” contest in 2013, has joined Surrey-based Joseph Richard Group as the company’s Director of Culinary Operations.
Prior to joining JRG, the Cloverdale-raised Stowe was the product development chef with Cactus Club Café.
Stowe will develop and maintain the food and beverage vision for all Joseph Richard Group establishments, including the Sudo Asian Kitchen restaurant set to open next year at the corner of 64th Avenue and Fraser Highway, near the Langley border.
• Surrey Board of Trade announced the winners of its Innovation Awards at a luncheon on Sept. 29.
Shawn Davis, of Compy Inc., won the Young Innovator award, while MicroMatter Technologies Inc. won the Small Business Award. The Large Business Award went to FortisBC, and West Coast Learning Centre was the winner of the Organization Award. The event, held at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel, was presented by SFU Surrey, and the award sponsors were Century Group, KPU and the Lark Group.
• Operators of Hubcast Media Productions and Studios say the high demand for filming and studio space locally has prompted the opening of its facility in Surrey, at 8240 188th St.
The studio includes 5,000 square feet of indoor space and 10 acres of rural forest and pastures for outdoor filming, according to company CEO Peter Young.
“The facility will bridge the gap for public and private sectors to utilize the space and its surrounding areas,” he stated in a press release.
