Business perks up at local coffeehouse

The owner of a new coffee shop on the Oak Bay border is hoping the shop becomes a regular stop for local residents.

The Good Earth Coffeehouse opened on Oak Bay Avenue at the beginning of March.

“Things have been going a lot better than we expected,” said Erjon Bleta, owner of the coffeehouse located at the corner of Oak Bay Avenue and Foul Bay Road.

“People have been supporting us and we already have repeat customers who come all the time. It proves that we’re in a great neighbourhood.”

In addition to coffee, Good Earth offers bakery products and is licensed for beer and wine sales.

“We bake in the back so the food is fresh,” said Bleta. “Our coffee beans are high quality, we use only Arabica beans. Most of our beans are organic and all of them are fair trade.”

He said they tried to make the atmosphere warm and welcoming, with lots of seating and an open floor plan.

“We tried to make it like a home for people of all ages, even for kids. We’ve got great gelatos,” said Bleta.

The Oak Bay coffeehouse is the third Good Earth location in Victoria and 51st since the company started in Calgary in 1991.

Good Earth is open seven days a week, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
