Businesses, volunteers recognized at chamber awards

Nominees were plentiful in this year’s Business Excellence awards, making the wins all the more sweet.

Once again the Sicamous & District Chamber of Commerce recognized and celebrated local businesses, community groups and individuals at its annual awards gala, held this year at Hyde Mountain on Mara Lake Golf Course on May 27.

There were 13 nominees in the running for this year’s Community Service Award, which wound up going to the volunteer members of Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Shuswap Station #106.

Another 13 nominees were up for the Community Involvement Award, which went to Pat and Gwyneth Gau.

Twin Anchors’ Todd Kyllo beat out 14 other nominees to win the Business Role Model award, while Brother’s Pub & Liquor Store received the Legacy Award, topping 10 other businesses in the running.

Waterway Houseboats topped 12 nominees for the Creativity in Business Award, while Napa/Action Sales and Rentals beat out eight nominees for the Service Excellence Award.

The New Business Award went to Diane Evdokimoff and her Malakwa-based company Homestead Infusions.

The Family Friendly Business Award, with 10 nominees, went to D Dutchmen Dairy, the Curb Appeal award, with 11 nominees, to the Best Western Sicamous Inn and the Tourism Enhancement Award, with 13 nominees, went to the Eagle Valley Snowmobile Club.

Sicamous’ Mary Laurila edged out 12 other respected locals for this year’s Volunteer Excellence Award.
