Westshore Candles
Lisa Trotter started making soy-based candles in preparation for her upcoming wedding. It turned into a passion project and she began making them for friends and family.
Then she decided she wanted to give back to the community in some way so she created Westshore Candles. Partial proceeds of sales go directly to the to the Wild Wise Society, an educational program designed to reduce human-wildlife conflicts and help us all co-exist with wild creatures.
Trotter uses soy wax to create her candles and they are all vegan and cruelty free. She uses essential oils to provide the scent.
“I make two-ounce and four-ounce candles, as well as lavender bath salts, camp candles and fire starters,” she said.
“When I colour the candles I use only vegetable-based colouring.”
Trotter also offers a free tealight when you return your used candle container. To make it even better, she offers free delivery on the West Shore and contactless payment, through westshorecandles.com.

Behind the Glass
Melanie Woods loved creating beautiful draperies with her mother-in-law when she and her husband lived in Ontario.
When they moved to Vancouver Island, she continued making them. What started out as a part-time occupation so she could be home with her child, has turned into a booming business.
“We have grown quite a bit so now we are looking for a larger space,” Woods said.
“Our customers have been very happy with our work, and they bring us more customers. It’s not a bad position to be in.”
Behind The Glass specializes in fabricating custom drapery and roman shades. They also create custom drapery hardware for those hard-to-fit areas.
They even make custom bedding like duvet covers, shams and bed skirts, and outdoor living items that include outdoor pillows and cushions.
