Buzz on Business: New aesthetics shop nails it in Colwood

Darcy Nybo introduces a trio of new businesses on the West Shore

QC Nails

Jenny Nguyen took a risk when she opened the doors to QC Nails at 10–2244 Sooke Rd. in Colwood last August.

“It was very stressful opening up during a pandemic. But we did it,” she said. “We can do waxing, pedicures and manicures. I’ve been doing this for 15 years now and I enjoy it so much, especially doing nails.”

The shop is set up with distancing protocols in place and everyone is required to wear a mask. “We are starting to get very busy now and we are looking for more nail techs.”

QC Nails is open every day, even holidays, in order to accommodate her customers. They start their appointments at 9:30 a.m., except on Sunday when they open at 11. The shop closes Monday and Tuesday at 6 p.m., Wednesday through Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 4:30 pm.

Look for QC Nails on Facebook to find their March specials. To book an appointment call 250-391-6310.

Victoria Olive Oil Company

Another store that opened during the pandemic is Victoria Olive Oil Company (VOOC) Langford Foods, which opened their space at Millstream Village in Langford in October.

“We just knew it was the right time to open because of the products we carry,” said co-owner Cherilee Dyck.

VOOC carries a huge variety of gourmet olive oils and balsamic vinegars, as well vegan, gluten free and specialty items.

“Most of our products are Canadian,” Dyck said. “If a customer makes a request for an item we try to source the product as best we can. If we can bring it in, we will.” Specialty items include: olives, crackers, condiments, chocolates, spices, spicy jams and hard-to-find products like lemon curd and sea salt caramel.

The shop is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays.

Spotless Cleaning Services

When Eric Kromhout and his young family moved to Langford a year and a half ago, Kromhout went directly into contract teaching. With COVID-19 eliminated most of those jobs, he decided to start up a cleaning service.

“We offer window, screen and track cleaning, gutter and roof cleaning, as well as pressure washing and other residential and commercial services,” he said.

Right now is the best time to de-moss your roof and protect your investment, as well as look at your gutters Kromhout added. Around this time of year, gutters become heavy with dirt, leaves and other debris, he explained. This can result in gutters falling off or water leaking through walls.

“Our experienced cleaners are equipped for and know how to provide these dangerous cleaning services safely and efficiently,” he said. “We are also insured and bondable.”
