Tim Hortons Camp Day on June 1, where all proceeds from coffee sales help send local children to camp, raised $4,940 – surpassing last year’s total by more than $600.

100 Mile House Tim Hortons owner Steve MacPhail says the funds raised locally will send four children from the South Cariboo to camp this year.

“The [600] foundation bracelets sold out, which was terrific. We raised $1,200 with those, and all of our events were good.”

The hotdog sales went very well, as did some of the indoor fundraisers, such as helium balloons that ran out early and sold twice the volume they had prepared, leaving event volunteers scrambling to inflate more, he explains.

“We had great staff participation, and great community participation as well. It was real good.”

Local members from the 100 Mile House Fire Rescue, RCMP and BC Ambulance Service are “hugely appreciated” for once again volunteering their time and efforts at Camp Day, he notes.

“They come out every year and they look forward to it. They have fun … it’s a good time.”

MacPhail adds they also appreciate the support they received from area businesses, as well as the elementary school principals who assist him annually in selecting two local students to attend camp.

After this year’s successful event, a couple more local youngsters will benefit by attending the summer camp in 2016, in addition to the usual two elementary students, he notes.

“We are going to also send the two children of a staff [member] this year.”

Across the country, the 2016 Camp Day events raised $12.6 million to support the Tim Hortons Children’s Foundation in sending more than 18,000 Canadian children to camp.
