Tremain Media, a full-service media and marketing company operating in Campbell River for 17 years, opened their Nanaimo office less than six months ago, and were just awarded the 2018 New Business Award at the Nanaimo Business Awards.
“We adopted a distributed workforce model a long time ago,” says Leah, “which means that the people we work with and who work for us can choose to live in the places they love. I encourage democratic hours and work-life balance. It makes our company stronger when our people are happy.”
The distributed workforce model plays a role in how Tremain Media, a Campbell River company for 17 years, founded their first expansion office in Nanaimo less than six months ago. Elizabeth Crum had moved from Campbell River to Nanaimo in the summer of 2016, and began working as a freelance writer with Tremain Media. She also contributed to the development of a November 2017 workshop for business owners, helping them to navigate the world of content marketing on social media platforms. After the workshop, Tremain asked Crum if she would be interested in helping Tremain Media grow into the Nanaimo business community. Crum is now the Regional Creative Director for Tremain’s Nanaimo office.
“We have actually been doing work in Nanaimo since 2012,” Tremain says. “We did some really great projects with School District #68, as well as the City of Nanaimo. We loved our time there, and Nanaimo has been on my mind ever since.”
In the few short months since they announced they were open for business, Tremain Media has been busy meeting colleagues and getting to know Nanaimo better. They’ve already completed a number of projects and have built relationships with key institutions such as Vancouver Island University and the Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce. On April 26, Leah and Elizabeth accepted an award for Best New Business 2018 from the Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce.
“This award really means a lot, and we were thrilled to receive it,” says Tremain of the win. “The business community in Nanaimo has been truly welcoming to us. We work hard to build meaningful relationships with the people we work beside in a community, and I think this award recognizes that we are doing a good job of that in Nanaimo.”
As Tremain Media moves forward in both Campbell River and Nanaimo, Tremain has high hopes for what’s coming next.
“Nanaimo has so much to offer to local, national and international businesses. I see a big boom coming for the area, which will have a positive effect on the entire Island,” she says, smiling. “Keep an eye out for a third office!”
