Capelli’s takes over bistro on Victoria Quay

A new cafe, new barbecue products and a new location for a Valley salon in the business beat this week.

Rose DiRocco, owner of Capelli Hair Salon and Gifts at Victoria Quay has taken on a new project. DiRocco has opened Canal Café next door to Capelli, formerly Bear Watch Bistro.

Dale Horvath will be serving in the new Canal Café with many new homemade items on the menu, such as Anna’s German Oktoberfest potato salad. Open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., eat in or take out. Soup and a baguette are only $5.

Alter Ego Studio and Cosmetology Institute has moved to a larger location just down the road on Gertrude Street. Now located at 4445 Gertrude, the new studio is a huge 3,000 square feet, allowing the studio more room for classrooms and services. And now they have lots of parking.

The new facility opened April 5, but look for a grand opening celebration May 7, just in time for Mother’s Day.

Alter Ego Studio offers full esthetic, hair and nail services as well as massage. Services can be performed by professionals, or by students in training at a half price rate. Student classes start again in September and information packages are available at the studio. 250-723-8300.

Blue Grouse Winery from Duncan won the Award of Excellence in that category. More than 70 building projects were eligible for awards this year.
