Integrated Carpentry Tutorials offer seminars for Red Seal certification

Working carpenters and apprentices can brush up on their skills to challenge the ITA Red Seal exam with a series of carpentry tutorials in Courtenay. Integrated Carpentry Tutorials is offering a series of seminars designed to get carpenters and apprentices who have enough hours working in the trade to qualify for their Red Seal certification.

“Most working carpenters and apprentices find themselves in a Catch-22 situation,” ICT instructor Richard Dickenson said. “They’d love to get their Red Seal, but they need to brush up on their skills first and they can’t just stop working to get the instruction they need.  So we’ve designed this course with the working carpenter in mind.”  Dickenson said carpenters with Red Seal Certification not only earn more money in the field but are unable to advance into project management, union positions with large construction outfits, or high paying jobs in Alberta without it.

“It’s a great way to see the world, and a Canadian Red Seal ticket is respected all over the world,” said Dickenson, noting Canadian Red Seal carpenters are in demand in Japan.

Tutorials will focus on fundamentals from foundation to roof framing.

Courses will be held at Grantham Hall opposite the old Tsolum School in Courtenay the first three weekends of every month. Resource and reference material will be provided.
