CHAMBER NEWS: May days to remember

Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce planning a busy May schedule.

There are two important annual events coming up that businesses can attend.

First up is the Mayor’s and Planner’s Breakfast this Thursday, sponsored by Okanagan College. The event has been changed up this year and participants will now have the opportunity to gain more valuable interaction with staff from the city, the district and the region.

The breakfast will be held at the Village Green Hotel at 7:30, with the main event starting at 8:00. The presentations will begin giving overviews of changes, updates and new information from the city and regions.

After the overview presentations, the staff will set up in a small business round table format. This will allow businesses to learn more about the areas they have a specific interest in such as developments in Coldstream and RDNO, and with different departments with the City of Vernon.

All in all, it will be a lively and valuable exchange of information and a chance to make direct contact with the staff.

One of the most effective, and least expensive, forms of tourism marketing is to make sure that all the tourism partners in the region know about your business. The annual tourism exchange and speed networking event happens after work on Tuesday, May 28 at the Best Western Vernon Lodge.

This is an incredibly energetic event that generates more contacts for you in one hour than you can make at any other function. It’s very important to attend as this is the only time you’ll have to exchange brochures and connect with the other tourism businesses in the region before summer.

Everyone is welcome. The registration fee is $25, which covers food and refreshments, speed networking forum and tourism brochure exchange.

For more information, and to register for either of these events, contact the chamber office at 250-545-0771.

On Tuesday (the first day back after Victoria Day long weekend), is the monthly Business After 5, in cooperation with the Downtown Vernon Association (DVA).

The new Pacific Inn and Suites with Ricky’s All Day Grill are this month’s sponsors, so you’ll get a chance to see their new facility and reconnect with all your business contacts.

Chamber and DVA members are welcome, no registration is necessary.

George Duffy is the general manager of the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce.
