Chamber offices on the move

Penticton chamber closed Thursday and Friday to accommodate move to Main Street location

The Penticton and Wine Country Chamber of Commerce office has been temporarily located at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre for the past several weeks.

We wish to sincerely thank Paul O’Beirn and his staff at the centre for accommodating us through January and for being such a great venue for our 2011 Business Excellence Awards event. We’d also like to thank Jim Murray at Oughtread Coffee & Tea Ltd. for the coffee service he unexpectedly showed up with one day.

While our permanent home is yet to be finalized, we are happy to announce the chamber is relocating its offices to Suite 100 of the Kinsman Building, located at 166 Main St., Penticton. Our telephone number remains 250-492-4103. To accommodate the move, the chamber office will be closed on Friday and will reopen Monday, Feb. 13 at 9 a.m.

The chamber is gearing up our up winter and spring educational seminars under the Business Excellence Seminar Series. These encompass a vast range of topics to enhance and update your business skills.

The first seminar, which focuses on leadership, will take place March 15. Details will be on our website soon. Visit www.penticton.org for all the event calendar updates and more.

The next Business After Business networking event will take place Feb. 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Windward Software located at 200 – 3547 Skaha Lake Rd.

Meet and mingle with other business people and enjoy Windward Software’s hospitality. Chamber members attend for free, while future chamber members can check it out by investing $20 at the door or for free as a member guest. We look forward to seeing everyone there. Bring your business cards.

Nominations are now open for the 2012 chamber board of director positions. The chamber is seeking to fill 14 seats for one-year terms. Interested individuals can call the chamber office for more information or download the nomination form and description of director responsibilities from the chamber website at www.penticton.org.

Nominations must be supported by an existing chamber member in good standing. Nominations will be accepted until 4 p.m. March 1.

I had a good chat with Phil Evans of Zink Print the other day. Phil and his wife launched Zink Print in 2008 with the help of a Community Futures program, and he has been busy renovating his workshop recently to add more space and equipment.

In addition to a six-colour, four-station silk screening press that prints most ink types including environmentally friendly water-based inks, they added a 48-inch computer-controlled vinyl cutting system to handle vinyl decals, banners and signage, and vehicle and fleet graphics. A new heat-press allows ‘one-off’ designs or small batches of T-shirts too. Phil says he enjoys the creativity his business gives him and he takes pride in quality work, customer service and quick turn-around on jobs. Call Zink at 250-487-0818 or check out their store at www.zinkstuff.com.
