Chamber opens nominations for H.D. Stafford award

Good citizenship award to be presented in December

During his lifetime — the portion of it he spent here in Langley, certainly — Harold Stafford’s name was synonymous with good citizenship.

Those in Langley who were lucky enough to have known him will talk about what a remarkable man he was.

Many will echo the sentiments that he epitomized what a good citizen should be.

Often the projects that he became involved with were new and exciting ideas that would benefit all residents of Langley, occasionally relying on his gift of being able to share his vision and enthusiasm with others to sway them to assist him in his projects.

He dedicated an enormous amount of time and effort to make Langley among the best places to live and do business.

Since 1980, similarly community-minded local residents (see list) have been presented with the HD Stafford Good Citizen of the Year Award, for exhibiting the same qualities

Now, the Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce is once again asking residents, organizations and businesses of Langley to help them find the next HD Stafford Good Citizen of the Year.

Many of the recipients of this award were acquaintances of Mr. Stafford, or beneficiaries of his kindness or skills. To be honoured with receiving the Good Citizen Award has meant a great deal to each one.

Like Mr. Stafford, these men and women quietly work behind the scenes with organizations and activities throughout Langley to ensure that Langleyites continue to live in a caring community.

Nomination forms are now available at www.langleychamber.com or by contacting the Chamber office at 604-530-6656. The deadline for nominations is Friday, Nov. 25, 2011 at 5 p.m. The recipient will be announced at the Chamber’s December General Meeting on Dec. 13.
