Chamber searches for new directors

The chamber hopes to fill up to eight director positions this week

The Burns Lake and District Chamber of Commerce is current trying to fill up to eight director positions.

The chamber operates with a board of 14 directors who participate in the governance of the chamber, determining the focus and direction of the organization each year.

“Each member of the board volunteers their expertise, time and knowledge, reflecting a broad cross-section of the local business community,” explained chamber manager Randi Amendt. “Directors are recognized as the voice of business in our community, having the opportunity to educate and positively influence our local businesses.”

Directors serve two-year terms working with an annually elected executive committee consisting of a president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer, as well as the past president.

Directors leverage their professional expertise and business skill set to advise and work with committees and chamber staff to ensure the development, growth and engagement of the local business community.

Directors also participate as representatives and ambassadors of the business community at various community events. This includes attending monthly board meetings, participating at the chamber’s annual general meeting (AGM), appearing at chamber member events, volunteering with chamber initiatives, contributing to an annual full-day planning session and participating on board committees.

In addition to visiting various local businesses, directors meet regularly in the Heritage Room. Currently, the board meets at noon on the third Wednesday of every month with the exception of August.

The new board will be elected during the chamber’s AGM, which will take place on April 20, 2017. After the AGM, meeting dates will be re-determined according to the preferences and recommendations of the new directors.

Members who are interested in joining the board of directors may obtain additional information by contacting the chamber’s president Linda Uchasz at 250-692-0080 or Randi Amendt at 250-692-3773.
