Chef on a Bike: a new spin on culinary tourism

Promoting and enhancing enjoyment of the food culture while travelling by bike is what Island Joy Rides has been doing for five years.

Locals chef Ronald St. Pierre will lead a bike tour through the Valley, with stops at the farmers’ market to pick up supplies, and Blue Moon Winery, where he will cook for participants.

If you live in the Comox Valley, you are probably well aware that the local culinary scene is bursting with energy, ideas, partnerships, and delicious bites that will satisfy the simplest and the most discerning palettes. And if you are thinking of choosing Vancouver Island as a holiday destination this year, taking some time to sip and savour in the Comox Valley will be time well spent.

Promoting and enhancing enjoyment of our local food culture while actively travelling by bike is what local cycle touring company Island Joy Rides has been doing for five years. This summer, it is teaming up with Locals Restaurant; Comox Valley Farmers’ Market; and Blue Moon Farm, Winery and Ciderworx to offer a new spin on culinary tourism: Chef on a Bike.

The first Chef on a Bike features Locals Restaurant’s chef  Ronald St. Pierre.  Joining him will be his lovely wife Tricia (Locals front-of-house manager/hostess extraordinaire). The day will begin at Locals Restaurant followed by a leisurely cycle out to the Comox Valley Farmers’ Market to mix and mingle with local food growers and producers while learning about how Chef Ronald chooses his ingredients.  Guests will then meander along quiet roads and trails to Blue Moon Farm, Winery and Ciderworx, where owners Marla and George will welcome us all into their warm and uplifting space.  As we relax into the afternoon at the farm, Chef Ronald will delight and inspire us with a sumptuous lunch paired with Blue Moon wine and cider for all of us to enjoy.  This hands-on experience will allow guests to be a part of a chef’s journey from market to plate.

Chef on a Bike celebrates local food, active lifestyles, and connections with people and places.  We invite you to join in this culinary experience, offered this summer on Saturday, July 23. Space is limited to 18 riders and tickets are $129 per person plus tax.  For more info, email laurel@islandjoyrides.com
