Podiatrist Dr. Mike Motyer is packing up shop and relocating North Okanagan Foot and Ankle about two kilometres north.
“We are moving so we can put our own surgical suite in the building. It will allow me to do foot surgeries in the building,” said Motyer, who started North Okanagan Foot and Ankle in Vernon last January.
The grand opening for the new location, behind the Petro-Canada on 48th Avenue, is Aug. 2.
According to Motyer, the new office already has plenty of surgeries booked.
His office will be the only one in the Okanagan that offers in-house surgery and scopes.
“It is all about better patient care. We have that now because people just book a time and then come in. We don’t have huge wait lists like hospitals do,” said Motyer, who specializes on anything foot-related such as bunions, hammer toes, neuromas, plantar fasciitis, ankle breaks and sprains.
Foot and Ankle also offers orthotics along with laser and shockwave therapy to help prevent future foot catastrophes.
Motyer runs the office with the help from his wife Laura.
They decided to move from Red Deer to Vernon with their four children after they bought a boat and decided they needed to explore the lakes.
“Mike is a huge family man. Having his own office allows him to spend more time with us and what a beautiful area we live in now,” said Laura Motyer.
Mike Motyer completed his minor graduate studies at the University of Alberta and attended Des Moines University in Iowa for grad school.
He completed his residency and worked at a multi specialty firm in Indiana for two years before returning to Alta.
