Couple makes healthy donation for Surrey students

Dave and Diane Balsor donate $140,000 to firefighters' school snack program.

A Surrey couple has stepped forward in an unprecedented way to help fund a snack program for hungry students in the community.

Last year, Dave and Diane Balsor provided $40,000 towards the Surrey Firefighters Nutritional Snack Program. However this year, after seeing the impact and the need, the couple decided  to fund the entire 2012-2013 program with a donation of $100,000.

The program provides fruit juice, granola bars, sesame snaps, fruit cups, cheese, crackers and other non-perishable grocery items that are individually wrapped and be easily distributed to students in need throughout the Surrey School District.

“We are overwhelmed by their commitment to our program and the support they have given us with this donation,” said Mark McRae, Surrey FireFighters Charitable Society Secretary, Local 1271.
