How time flies. The 17th Annual Maxine DeHart, United Way—Ramada Hotel Drive-Thru Breakfast is fast approaching on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014 from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. We will be filling and distributing over 1,400 of the famous breakfast bags sponsored by Interior Savings Credit Union.
All the existing and new sponsors and volunteers are all gearing up with overwhelming enthusiasm for this year’s event. New sponsors General Mills and Lake City Casinos have come on board. Gemologist Michelle Urbanovitch of Party Rocks Jewellery has donated a major prize of a ‘Have a Heart’ diamond bracelet that will also come with a certified appraisal of $3,200. This piece of jewellery was given by Michele to the Drive-Thru in memory of our friend, Diane Lazauskas who passed away a few years ago.
Tim Horton’s will be on hand to serve their famous coffee and Tim-bits will be in all the bags. Big White will be donating a lift pass for every bag valued at $75 for opening day at Big White, which makes the value of the bags well over $125. I.A. Pacific Life and Terry Wardrop of Wealthlink Financial Services are on board again in a big way, this being their 17th year as sponsors of the event. They were the first ones to come on board when the event started in 1998.
MarketPlace IGA, our very own Sun Rype Products, Progressive Waste, Island Farms, Kozy Shack Pudding (comes all the way from Hicksville, N.Y. USA), Old Dutch, Nestles and Arby’s will all be on hand. Of course, the Kelowna Capital News has sponsored in a huge way, as has Bell Media and Global TV who have also been with the Drive-Thru for many years. That morning, turn your radio on to 99.9 SUN FM and 101-5 EZ ROCK with Andy and TJ who both will be on location at the Ramada that morning starting at 6 a.m. SUN FM will be on Enterprise Way and Andy and TJ will be just in front of Perkins Restaurant, who are also sponsors.
This year, FORTIS BC is handing out door and window acrylic siliconized caulking. Mario’s Towing will have one of their towing trucks on the lot and Booster Juice will be making their product in their trailer right onsite this year. Lil Moller and the Kelowna Hostesses will be in full force stuffing envelopes, bags and helping in the wee hours of the morning.
This year we are adding a special walking line, so that you can park your car and walk into the Drive-Thru. It will be marked and easily found in the front of the Ramada Hotel where you will pick up your bags after giving your donation. We are also incorporating new ‘kids bags’ this year that are full of all things that kids like.

For the second year in a row, Valley Mitsubishi in Kelowna has won the Customer Satisfaction Award for scoring the best of 88 dealerships in Canada. Local artist, Jeff Fraser is about to unveil his new art medium Levo Art at the Kelowna Art Gallery on Friday, Sept. 12 from 6-9 p.m. Jeff and his father John own and operate a spray foam company, Fraser Urethanes Ltd. With the support of the Kelowna Yacht Club and its members, residents with visual impairments will experience the beautiful Okanagan Lake, but a bit differently. For over 15 years, Kelowna Yacht Club members have been hosting visually impaired guests along with their guides at the Blind Fishing Derby on Saturday, Sept. 6. Boats will head out at 9:30 a.m. with fishing gear and visions of a fish that wins the trophy, while others will embark on a narrated lake tour. This is followed by lunch on the dock presented by the Kelowna Yacht Club’s excellent kitchen team. All of the Yacht Club volunteer members are donating their boats, time and fuel to provide this unique experience to fellow citizens who seldom experience the pleasure of boating. The Kelowna Chapter of Days for Girls is hosting an open house on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 2-4 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church hall at 4091 Lakeshore Rd.
