DeHart: New business combines spa and salon services

A new full-service salon and spa, Orah Spa + Salon, has opened in Kelowna at 2790 Richter St. (corner of Richter and Raymer).

Owned and operated by Debi Nicoletti, formerly a partner at Mirror Mirror, Orah is a unique, professional space with an urban flare, designed with sustainability in mind. Orah uses high quality products which are respectful to the environment. Spa director Julie Zamorano is joined by her staff—Katy Holmes, Taylor Peterson, Rachel Nojonen, Marie Frick and Richell Nicoletti. Orah offers facial and body therapies, anti-aging, nutri-cosmeceutical, facial and body enhancements, body therapies, manicures, group booking pedicures, waxing, sugaring, lash extensions and tinting. They even have a man space. The salon service is led by Debi along with stylists Katie Hantula, Dani Mackriss, Kylee Fournier and Andrea Thumm. Although there is construction on Pandosy Street at the corner of Leon and Pandosy, City Pizza is still open. Located at 1675 Pandosy St. and owned and operated by Katrina Mendl and Tarun Bhatti, their pizza is wonderful with pick-up and delivery service available. There is lots of parking right across the street. City Pizza caters to a late night crowd so try and support them through this road  construction process. Call 250-860-8878.

Ashbury Bridal, owned and operated by Shilo Verhaegan at 1619 Ellis St., will celebrate its second anniversary in business this month. Ashbury is an eco-friendly, full service bridal boutique that specializes in designer, wedding, grad and formal gowns. Several Kelowna Certified Management Accountant  students recently received their designation from the CMA-BC Society (CMABC). Congratulations to Laura Bot, Wynn Griffith, Kathleen Marshall, Allison McEachern, James Schisler, Justin Sharko, Alanna Snitynsky, and Richard Wager. I have sat on the board of CMABC for the past four years.

Dr. Guy Fradet, cardiac surgeon and IHA medical director, and Carol Laberge, program cardiac director of KGH Cardiac, have been awarded the Leadership in Quality Award by the BC Patient Safety and Quality Council. Interior Health’s Cardiac Surgery Program team has completed 1,000 open heart surgeries at KGH since the program’s inception in 2012. The program will move to the Interior Heart and Surgical Centre when it opens next year at KGH.

Andreen’s Medicine Centre, 881Anders Rd. in West Kelowna (Lakeview Heights Plaza), was started as a family business in 1975. With new ownership taking over the centre in June, the long-standing tradition of personalized customer service continues. Recent remodeling has made room for a designated space for both a nursing services clinic and a home health products area. Nursing services offered by registered nurse Peggy Spahn provides foot care with a medical focus, diabetic foot assessments, recommendations for pressure relieving foot devices, immunization updates, physician prescribed medication administration by injection, referrals to community nurses and updates to physicians for client related medical management. Congrats to Sophia Russo, recognized by the Central Okanagan Board of Education for achieving Top Junior Debater honours for the Okanagan region and being chosen to attend the National Debate Seminar in New Brunswick.

Megan Butchart, Angel Yu, Samuel Cho, Katie Webb and Megan Soderlund—all Grade 12 students of Kelowna Secondary School—were also recognized by the board of education as $1,000 winners for the History Now category of the Government of Canada History Awards, along with their teacher Graeme Stacey.

The Spirit of Christmas in the Village is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., hosted by the Pandosy Village Business Association. Participating businesses will offer in-store discounts and the street will be filled with carolers. This also kicks off their toy drive. For every toy donated, shoppers will be entered into a grand prize draw for a basket of merchant goodies worth $1,000. Drop off toys until Dec. 19 at any of the participating businesses. The Black Tie Christmas Concert for Kate is Sunday, Dec. 14, 4 p.m., at Evangel Church. This event is calling the community together for a great need. Kate, 26,  has been battling Wilson’s disease for over a year. She has been living in a seniors’ care facility and longs to have her own apartment to call home on her long road to recovery. The Miss Kelowna Lady of the Lake pageant is now  in its 85th year,   one of the longest running organizations in Kelowna. Pageant organizers are now busy recruiting candidates for  2015.
