Michel’s Montreal Smoked Meat has opened at 101-1851 Kirschner Road in the Stewart Centre. Owned and operated by Michel Tremblay, the restaurant has seating for 50 inside and an additional seasonal patio for 50 and is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Michel brines, spices, cooks and steams all the smoked meat in-house in his large state-of-the-art equipment. Jenelle Hynes, business development and community relations administrator at the Kelowna Airport for the past 10 years, is on a new flight path. She has accepted a position with Pacific Coastal Airlines as their new business development and customer service manager for the Okanagan–Kootenay Region. Ryan Donn is the new cultural development coordinator for the District of Lake Country. This new position will be responsible for the coordination of the community Creekside Theatre, open air performances, public art supervision, cultural and heritage events and working with various community organizations. Present contracted theatre manager for the past 16 years, Horst Jassman, is retiring at the end of the year. Gwen Plitt is The Kelowna International Choir’s new music director for the 2015/16 season. Plitt is a local teacher at South Rutland Elementary School, who has been conducting choirs for more than 20 years and has played the lead role in many local musicals.
