Fall harvest festival launches in Langley

A featured event at this year's festival at Langley's Kwantlen Polytechnic University campus is an apple bake-off.

While fall is in full swing, for the farmers who bring their produce to market every week in Langley, October is a time to wind down.

And, to mark the end of the growing season at the Langley Community Farmers Market, manager Cherise McGee has introduced a new Fall Harvest Festival.

The festival is being held on Wednesday, Oct. 12, from noon to 4:30 p.m. at Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Langley campus.

McGee described the new event is a way to “celebrate a spectacular 2016 season.”

“It’s one last opportunity for our vendors and customers to connect,” she said. “Our new Fall Harvest Festival will allow us to continue to foster those relationships and emphasize the hard work and talent of our artisans and vendors.”

This event will showcase about 40 vendors who have been regulars at the market throughout the season.

It will also feature live music and food trucks serving up lunch. There’s a kids area with fun apple activities, and something a little special to celebrate this “delectable” piece of fruit, McGee said.

“For those apple pie aficionados who want to put their skills to the ultimate test, there’s even an apple pie bake-off,” McGee said.

The apple bake-off begins at 2 p.m. and features 10 customers and vendors bringing their best apple dessert dishes to the table to be judged.

The day will also include a closing ceremony at 4 p.m., where a dinner for four with Chef Adrian Beaty will be given away, followed by a mix-and-mingle potluck (anyone who brings a dish is invited to participate).
