Nominations are now being accepted for the Family Business Association Vancouver Island’s annual excellence award.

The award is given annually by the organization to recognize, celebrate and promote achievements of Canadian family businesses and the contributions they make to both their local communities and the national economy.

Past winners of the award include a pair of businesses with West Shore connections; Capital Iron and Wilson’s Transportation.

The nomination period will continue until Oct. 14, with the celebration gala scheduled for Feb. 9, 2017 at the Beach House Restaurant in Saanich. A video of the award recipient’s family business will be shown, and two other award finalists will be honoured during the evening.

A family-owned business is defined as a business organization that has one of the following characteristics:

– Potential exists for ownership to be passed on to a younger generation

– More than one family member has active employment in an organization owned by the family

– A family holding company has in the past or is presently operating a Canadian business.
