Federal government on summer job hunt

The federal government is gearing up for summer jobs.

The Canada Summer Jobs program provides work experience for students and supports organizations that provide community services.

Canada Summer Jobs is part of the Summer Work Experience program providing funding for not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees. It’s mandate is to create summer job opportunities for students between age 15 to 30 who are looking for work experience.

Jobs from potential employers should focus on service to communities and jobs that support local priorities. The jobs should also provide career-related experience or early work experience.

Potential employers should provide supervision and mentoring and project activities directed toward members of an official-language minority community.

The criteria also focuses on employers who intend to hire priority students, such as students with disabilities, Aboriginal students and students who are members of visible minority groups.

Potential employers can file applications until Feb. 28.
