The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen (RDOS) is close to finishing the work on making sure that all zoning bylaws are the same across the entire region.
The process of consolidating all of the zoning bylaws in the RDOS’ constituent electoral areas began in 2008.
The final stage is expected to be finished and brought forward to the RDOS board in the summer for consideration.
The consolidation has so far brought tourist commercial zones and agricultural zones into alignment across the region.
The remaining two types of zoning that are being reviewed are low-density residential and small holding. These zoning types represent areas that have smaller residential subdivision developments, usually with community water and sewer; and slightly larger rural residential subdivisions, usually on septic sewer service and either on individual wells or a community water system.

As part of the review, the RDOS is looking at what properties in the electoral areas have zoning that matches what is proposed for the two areas, and building tables of lists on the similarities and differences in the zoning bylaws.
After that step is complete, a review of existing properties will be conducted and the zoning adjusted if necessary to match the finalized RDOS zoning appropriate for their location and construction.
In cases where significant changes have been proposed, a letter will be sent to the property owner.
