‘Full speed ahead’ for Comox Mall

Project targeted for completion in June 2017

During the annual general meeting of the Comox By The Sea Business In Action association held on Wednesday, Nov. 16, attendees learned that it’s “full speed ahead” for the Comox Centre Mall redevelopment project.

Mall co‐owner Keith McRae was the special guest speaker during the event and announced that renovations are underway.

“It’s unheard of in this day and age to find eight acres on the corner of ‘First and Main’,” said McRae. “And when we first looked at the property we could see that it was a gem, it just needed a little polishing.”

While McRae would not reveal who the new tenants would be he assured BIA members that he and his business partner, David Coon, were working with a number of exciting organizations including two potential restaurants. The project is targeted for completion in June 2017.

Comox BIA president Richard DeLuca also addressed the audience, citing a number of ongoing projects including the addition of 34 news suites at the Berwick Retirement Home, the redevelopment project in Marina Park, the recently completed townhouse development on Anderton Road, upcoming construction of The Element at the Waterfront condos below Harbour Centre, and the nearly completed condo development on Comox Avenue, as well as the Comox Rotary Splash Park initiative.

“All of these projects help to revitalize our downtown core,” said DeLuca. “It’s an exciting time in our community and we’ve got a lot to look forward to.”
