Olga Votolovskaya (front), head of the women’s hockey department with the Russian Hockey Federation, leads the applause thanking the staff at the Gateway Grill in Clearwater Lodge for feeding the Russian national women’s hockey team for four days last month as they prepared for the world championships in Kamloops.

Behind her are (l-r) Cindy Wilgosh, Kieran Jones, Kalen Jones, Amanda Jones, Justin Rauch and Melissa Edgarly.

“It was definitely a challenge,” said owner Kalen Jones of the experience. The team demanded plenty of healthy food but nothing out of the ordinary – mostly just meat, potatoes and pasta.

“They were super polite,” he said of the team. “You could tell they wanted to make a good impression. And they were very serious. They were here to do a job,” he added.
