Gekko sport boats re-emerges at Kelowna Yacht Club boat show

West Kelowna Marine showcases latest edition of sports boat that fell out of production for several years.

The revival of the Gekko sports boat that fell out of production in 2008 was continued last weekend at the Kelowna Yacht Club Boat Show.

West Kelowna Marine, the exclusive dealer in B.C. for Gekko tournament boats, paraded a new model of the sports boat.

Featured was the 2015 Revo 7.1 Gekko Tournament boat which boasts a 410hp Indmar engine, Custom wakeboard tower with polished wake board racks, concert package speakers connected to a blue tooth, state of the art sound system and a “MaxWave” 1200 lb ballast system.(to create that perfect wave for the perfect  surf or wake board ride.)

“The best news is the new Gekko is significantly less expensive than all the other tournament boats on the market today yet offers the same if not better quality,” said Diana Bertucci, with West Kelowna Marine located on Gellatly Road.

Gekko was founded by Mark Overbye who started Moomba Sports in 1989.  A life-long water sports enthusiast and tournament skier who still competes today, Overbye’s passion evolved into a vision for tow boats embracing strong performance and purist elements wrapped with inspiring appeal

Gekko’s original halls of management teamed with skiers and riders.  Their passionate approach spawned fresh thinking resulting in some of the best performing and exhilarating boats ever seen in the tow boat segment.

Winning a global following, Gekko had been blessed with rave reviews from owners as well as editors and test teams from Water-ski, Wakeboarding, Wakeboard, Powerboat, Go Boating and many other titles.

Gekko founder Mark Overbye left the company in 2008.  From 2008 to 2011 the marine industry falls off a financial cliff as unit volumes for nearly all builders are cleaved in half or worse

In 2013, Overbye reacquired Gekko’s assets and sets out to re-establish production.  A complete overhaul of the line results in the development of new interiors, towers, trailers, dashes, graphics and a renewed vigor to build top quality, inspiring products built on Gekkos legacy of performance and passion.
