Hidden in the middle of the Golden Golf Club is one of the town’s best kept culinary gems.
The same Golden Eagle Grill that keeps the skiers and snowboarders fed at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in the winter, is serving Golden’s golfers all summer long.
“Being at the golf course this year is really great,” said Brian Siff, food and beverage manager for Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. This is the second year KHMR and the Golden Eagle Grill have been running the restaurant in the clubhouse.
“The ski hill can be its own little world up there, and here you get to be involved with a completely different group of local people.”
Chef Ryan Jackson, along with resort head chef Sylvain Bourget who oversees all the restaurants associated with KHMR, created a menu they hope will accommodate a diverse group of people.
“It’s a pretty great menu, and it’s competitively priced. And everything is homemade, we make our own sauces, and bread our own chicken tenders,” said Siff.
“We make everything from scratch, so it gives us room to play,” said Jackson, who has had the opportunity to flex creative muscles with the men’s and ladies’ night specials.
“For the men’s and ladies’ nights it’s anything goes. It’s a lot of fun,” he said. One night he served up Flintstone Ribs, and is especially excited to be preparing the 122-pound pig roast for the golf club’s Hog Open at the end of the month.
Jackson, an avid golfer himself, has particularily enjoyed developing a relationship with the club members.
Golfers and campers at the golf club’s RV Park are well aware of the restaurants appeal, but many residents of Golden are unaware it even exists.
“A lot of people don’t know we’re out here. There are people in town don’t golf, so don’t realize there’s a restaurant here,” said Siff. “And I love our patio, I think it’s one of the best ones in town… It’s really unique how there’s no houses, no development of any kind.”
All you can see from the patio is mountains, trees, and the beautiful links. The Golden Eagle Grill has an all-day menu from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and a full breakfast menu on the weekends.
They are also offering a special, giving 10 per cent off lunches for all local businesses.
