Forty-one lucky customers had their groceries paid for on Saturday at John’s Independent grocery store in Comox.
As part of the Loblaws Market Moments initiative, the store conducted a grocery giveaway on April 28 at approximately 1:30 p.m. Everyone in line at the cashiers’ tills at that time had their groceries paid for.
Following a brief announcement about the grocery giveaway from store owner John Jerczynski, employees shot off confetti while a band played in the corner.

Jerczynski said it was the second time the grocery store participated in such a giveaway, after conducting one two years ago.
“We’re celebrating market moments with our customers, in appreciation of our customers that have been loyal to us over the years,” he said. “I think they were very surprised.”
Collectively, the 41 customers saved about $2,500.
Comox resident Jenn Campinos was one of the lucky shoppers. She said she saved $101.
“I was here two years ago when they did it, but I wasn’t in front of the line,” she said.
“I think it’s great. It’s nice to get free groceries considering we spend so much on them.”
Also from Comox, Leanne Morrison was another who benefited from the grocery giveaway. She was at the store with her son and saved $250.
“I’m shocked. I had no idea, and I’m here all the time so I lucked out,” she said.
