It will cost more for international students to attend classes in the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows school district in the fall.
The board of education approved increasing the 10-month tuition fee from $11,000 to $12,000 last week. According to staff, it is the first increase in eight years and will still be competitive with other districts.
Also approved were a boost in the Medical Services Plan fee to $80 from $70 and the homestay monthly fee to $800 from $700, as well as the additions of a $100 homestay placement fee, an $80 airport pick-up fee and a $100 legal fee.
Secretary-treasurer Wayne Jefferson said the district has received no push back from student agents.
“The fees are similar to other districts managing their finances these days,” said Jefferson.
