The Kelowna Sears store staff were hard at work doing not only their regular jobs last weekend, but also working extra hard in support of the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride taking place this month.
On Saturday, local store employees rode a stationary bike in 30-minute shifts as part of a fundraising campaign for the project.
The goal for Sears stores across B.C. is to raise $100,000, and the Kelowna store has set a personnel target of $6,500.
To achieve that, Sears had many fundraising projects planned, including a garage sale, hot dog sale, pizza day which takes place today, 50/50 draw and to accept donations at the till from customers when making their purchases.
As well, the riders participating in the Vancouver to Halifax cross-country ride were to make a stop at the Sears store in Orchard Park Shopping Centre yesterday evening.
A reception for the riders was planned for last night with speeches from various dignitaries and a chance for the public to hear some of the cancer survivor stories from the ride participants.
“This is a national campaign for Sears and we are doing our part here in Kelowna to get behind that,” said Kelowna Sears store manager Randy Sheehan.
