Pat Corbett posted to Destination BC marketing committee

Hills Health Ranch owner Pat Corbett has been appointed to sit amongst 19 new members of the province’s Destination British Columbia (DBC) Tourism Marketing Committee

DBC chair Andrea Shaw announced the appointments in late July, which include a wide array of regional leaders in the tourism sector from across the province.

Corbett says he’s pleased to be selected, as well as to see there are five representatives on the committee from the Interior and North Coastal B.C.

They include Corbett, Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association (CCCTA) CEO Amy Thacker, Chilcotin Holidays manager (and CCCTA vice-president) Andre Kuerbis of Lillooet, Northern BC Tourism Association CEO Anthony Everett of Prince George, and Crest Hotel owner Steve Smith of Prince Rupert.

“I’m happy to be a member and to try to turn around and influence bringing more people into British Columbia and the Cariboo-Chilcotin region,” explains Corbett. “I’m also really looking forward to working with the team that’s been put together as a committee.”

Also CCCTA’s president, Corbett adds he is familiar with most of the people appointed and they are “absolutely outstanding marketers” and a “red seal” group to undertake the mandate of this DBC committee.

“It’s good to have Amy [Thacker] there, and Andre [Kuerbis] from Chilcotin Holidays. We have three strong voices from this region and very, very strong representation from across rural British Columbia on this committee.

“It will add great strength and wisdom to the table.”

DBC has been mandated to fulfill several key marketing and leadership responsibilities critical to the long-term, sustainable growth of the provincial tourism industry. Its new Tourism Marketing Committee has been established to give sector stakeholders from across the province an active role in strengthening and aligning DBC’s marketing strategies.

The member nominees were identified by each of B.C.’s six Regional Destination Marketing Organizations (RDMOs), and then narrowed down to the final 19 appointments by DBC’s board. Two DBC board members will also sit on the committee, Loring Phinney and Gordon Fitzpatrick, and its chair will be the Crown corporation’s permanent CEO, yet to be found.

The committee will provide the DBC board and CEO with input and recommendations on tourism marketing strategies, tourism performance indicators, ways to encourage alignment in tourism marketing activities and ways to leverage funds for tourism marketing programs.
