The doors officially opened at the brand new Lowe’s store in Abbotsford today (Thursday).
Abbotsford Mayor Henry Braun marked the occasion by sawing the middle of a welcome board sign in front of employees, spectators and representatives from the United Way.
Lowe’s donated $10,000 to the United Way – Better at Home program for the Fraser Valley. Better at Home is a program that helps seniors with simple day-to-day tasks so that they can continue to live independently in their own homes and remain connected to their communities.
The store, which employs 140 associates, is the second Lowe’s location in British Columbia and the 47th in Canada.
Lowe’s invested in excess of $25 million locally through the real estate transaction, development and building construction. The company also invested over 11,000 hours into employee training for the store’s opening.
The location at 1225 Sumas Way was the former home of Target, which closed last year and also Zellers, which Target replaced in 2013.
Grand opening events will run from Thursday until Sunday. Customers can enjoy free sessions, giveaways and contests including a Q & A, and interactive autograph signing session with HGTV’s Bryan Baeumler on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Also on Saturday, customers will receive a free $25 gift card (the first 200 customers on Saturday only), and there is a Build & Grow Workshop for kids at 10:00 a.m. On Sunday Lowe’s will be giving away a Duramaxx Electric String Trimmer to the first 80 customers. Customers can also enter to win one of five Grand Prizes.
