Lucky Langley resident is Alaska bound

The 18th annual Best of the Best program by the Langley Advance included a draw for a cruise.

Irene Dawson never wins anything, or so the Langley City woman will tell you. That is until recently, when her luck apparently changed.

The faithful Langley Advance reader won a five-night cruise to Alaska next May, complete with an oceanview stateroom, courtesy of Cruiseship Centres.

And Dawson won just for picking her favourite local businesses in the 2015 Best of the Best Awards program.

For the past 18 years now, the Advance has been asking its readers and members of the Langley community to vote for the best businesses in town.

And while this newspaper has been a favourite of Dawson’s for more than 30 years, participating in the competition was new.

She and a long-time girlfriend made an pact going in. They’d each enter, and if by chance either won, they’d take the other on the trip.

“It just seemed like fun… something different to do,” Dawson said of Best of the Best.

“This is a wonderful surprise,” she added of the win, excited to return to Alaska for a second time. She travelled there a few years ago with her daughter, and was particularly in awe of the country’s beauty.

A special Best of the Best section is in the Aug. 27, 2015 edition of the Langley Advance.
