The Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce’s annual general meeting, hosted at Chances Rimrock Gaming Centre last Wednesday, was truly enjoyable. The chamber would like to welcome the following new directors to the board for the up-coming year: Mark Aussem (Alberni Technical Solutions), Linda Bowers (Boutique Belles Amies), Charlene Patterson (Char’s Landing) and Jan Lavertu (Home Hardware – soon to be located in the former Safeway at the old Alberni Mall site).
These new directors will join our re-elected board members: Matei Mateias (RBC), Laurie Smillie (Bulldogs), and Matt Williamson (Wild West Watersports) and our returning directors Gary Spencer-Smith (West Coast Slam), Will Pulford (Van Isle Ford) and Kim Heeks (Lube-X).
The executive committee is made up of President Neil Malbon (McLean Mill National Historic Site), first vice-president Teresa Bird (Alberni Valley News), second vice-president Peter Wienold (The Graphics Factory), Treasurer Cherie Williams (Scotiabank) and Secretary Bob Cole. The current appointees to the board include John Bennie (SD 70), Dennis Bill (Tseshaht), Doug Blake (Community Futures), Jonathan Cross (Hoteliers Assoc.), David McCormick (Port Authority), Hira Chopra (City of Port Alberni) and Glenn Wong (Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District) – clearly a whole list of local business leaders who will provide great inspiration and direction to the chamber for the upcoming year.
If your business isn’t yet a member of the Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce, you might consider joining, as our effectiveness lies with the number of members we have – i.e. it will make the board’s job much easier. Thanks to Linda Whiteman, Vishal Dewli and Siedo Tzogoeff for their past service to the chamber.
Our next networking luncheon will take place on Wednesday, June 13 at the Best Western Barclay Hotel. Our guest speaker will be Compliance Coal’s John Tapics. Reserve your seat by calling our switchboard at 250-724-6535. Operators are standing by.
Our “Great Rivers of Europe” travelogue is coming up on June 26. The chamber will be hosting an audio visual tour down the Danube promoting a vacation coming up in Sept. of 2013 that evening. To register for this program, call Twin Travel at 250-724-6501.
