MANAGER’S DESK: Cruisin’ the Danube with Alberni chamber

The Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce has a number of events coming up, including a presentation on a Danube River cruise.

If you like the idea of floating down the magnificent Danube River aboard a palatial river cruiser, stopping off for food and wine tastings, touring museums and visiting some of Europe’s finest attractions for a couple of weeks, the Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce and Twin Travel would like to invite you to a travelogue evening to showcase “Legendary Waterways of Europe”.

Collette Travel’s European guru, Tom Mclean, will present a multi-media travel show on this excursion June 26 in the visitor centre boardroom. There will be refreshments, everyone is welcome and admission is absolutely free. Sign up by calling either Twin Travel at 250-724-6501 or the chamber office at 250-724-6535.

This cruise is also a fundraiser for the chamber.

Yvette and I would love to see as many Port Albernians as possible aboard this cruise. It will be good to have Yvette on board because she speaks Hungarian and I speak wine! The cruise will take place in September 2013, so there’s lots of time to chuck a few sheckles a week in the old piggy bank.

It will be an interesting evening coming up on March 15 at the Italian Canadian Centre as a group of 40 local businesses feature their goods and services in the “Alberni Valley Expo” mini trade show. Admission is free and I’ll bet there will be a number of businesses represented there that you didn’t even know existed in the Alberni Valley. This event is sponsored by BNI, the Women’s Business Network, Community Futures and the Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Nominations are coming in now for the April 14 Community Excellence Awards Dinner at the Best Western Barclay. Find the nomination information and form on our avcoc.com website – it’s as easy as that. Reservations for the dinner are now available by contacting the chamber office.

Our next networking luncheon will feature Parksville city councillor and former chamber president Marc Lefebvre, who will deliver the state of Parksville address and answer questions about where that community is heading these days. That will take place at noon, Wednesday, March 14 at the Alberni Golf Club (they have a great new chef!).

Don’t forget to show up for “Pack the Plex” night, 6 p.m. this Friday, March 9, as the Alberni Valley Bulldogs host Cowichan Valley Capitals. The challenge is to fill the stands for a special video shoot. There will be all sorts of entertainment prior to the actual game, so it will be well worth your while.
