Motel removed as part of highway project

The former Golden Gate Motel was torn down recently as part of the upgrades happening to Highway 1.

The former Golden Gate Motel adjacent to the new section of four-lane highway on Golden Hill has now been removed. Dakota Reclamators Ltd of Calgary, Alberta, salvaged the copper, windows, doors and furniture, and safely disposed of the waste materials.

To lower construction costs, the building was used as office and quarters for the crews on the Golden Hill to West Portal section of the Kicking Horse Canyon Project.  The remaining surplus property is expected to be placed on the market soon.
