Taste of B.C. Aquafarms has been selected as a finalist to pitch its business model to investors in the final event of the 2015 Fish 2.0 seafood business competition.
The company is among 37 finalists and runners-up from Canada, the U.S., Chile, Latin America, the South Pacific and Southeast Asia that will compete for $180,000 in cash prizes at the global business competition that happens at Stanford University, in Stanford, Calif., Nov. 10-11.
Taste of B.C., a land-based fish farm located on Jameson Road in Nanaimo, has been producing Little Cedar Falls steelhead salmon for grocery retailers on the Island since 2014 and was selected as a finalist from a field of 170 competitors.
Steve Atkinson, Taste of B.C. Aquafarms president, said if the company comes up a winner in the competition that will translate into worldwide exposure.
“We’re trying to build more than just our own business,” Atkinson said. “We’re trying to kick-start an industry, so the funds are going to put us on a sure financial footing that ensures our success.”
