Nanaimo’s Tilray makes Time Magazine’s list of 100 most influential companies

List highlights businesses making 'extraordinary impact' around the world

Nanaimo-based Tilray, a cannabis producer, researcher and distributor, has made Time Magazine‘s inaugural list of 100 most influential companies.

Time‘s article referenced Tilray’s recent merger with Aphria which formed the world’s largest cannabis company by annual revenue at more than $685 million.

“Still, there’s room to grow,” Time Magazine notes in the article, available at this link. “The plan going forward involves supporting studies that might widen approved medical targets, like epilepsy, pain and anxiety, and marketing consumer products like THC-infused drinks wherever recreational pot goes legit.”

Time‘s list was assembled from nominations, solicited across business sectors such as health care, entertainment, transportation and technology, from a network of editors, correspondents and industry experts. Each nominated company was evaluated on factors including relevance, impact, innovation, leadership, ambition and success.

“On behalf of every Tilray employee, we feel extremely honoured by Time‘s recognition as it provides validation for the myriad accomplishments and milestones that have marked Tilray’s status as a pioneer in the global cannabis industry…” said Brendan Kennedy, Tilray chief executive officer, in a press release. “We feel proud of all we’ve accomplished, grateful to our employees for their indispensable contributions, and passionate in our belief that the best is yet to come.”

He said as the company finalizes its merger with Aphria, the ‘new’ Tilray will leverage the partners’ combined strengths in geographic scale, product range, and brand expertise to meet the needs of consumers, which he said will benefit stakeholders over the long term.
