Rite On Time Excavation & Trucking Ltd. is digging the scene from North Qualicum to Nanaimo, gearing up for spring’s high demands.

“We’re a two-man show and service is our top priority,” said Cody Nielsen, of himself, founder and owner of Rite On Time, and employee, Paul Girard. “We’re both well versed in everything that we do. We drive trucks and run bobcats and excavators, offer advice and suggestions to people and always provide free estimates. Honesty really is our best policy. It’s an all-encompassing and overall rewarding job, digging in the dirt to make people happy.”

About his estimates, Nielsen said: “We tell people how we would do the job as if it were our own home; suggesting the best way to do it, and how to get the most out of your dollar. We’re not in the business to waste anyone’s time or money — we strive to have happy, repeat customers.”

Ten-year member and a captain in Nanoose Bay’s Volunteer Fire Department, Nielsen remembers the first time he hopped onto a dirt-moving machine.

“I was eight years old when I ran my first excavator,” Nielsen said of his early days growing up in Nanoose. “It was a John Deer 490 E, and then I started running the backhoe around the family property. It was all uphill from there.”

With years of self-taught experience, Nielsen went on to become a heavy-duty mechanic, receiving his ticket from Vancouver Island University. He then apprenticed for Bobcat, realizing that starting his own company in the community that he grew up in was better suited.

“The type of work that we do is right from land clearing and site development to landscaping, lawn renovations, drainage and building rock walls,” Nielsen said. “We have a fifteen-ton excavator, a mini excavator and a track bobcat, a rubber tire bobcat, a roller and equipment trailers. And we also have three gravel trucks. One two-ton and two full sized. Now that spring is around the corner, we’ve been finding over the years that a lot of our customers are looking to have their driveways redone. That is definitely in high demand this time of year.”

A booming time within the industry, Nielsen touches on the significance of supporting his community.

“We’ve stuck it out here through the good and bad, thanks to our loyal client base. Just as our community has supported us, we wanted to continue supporting them,” he said.

On the topic of locality, Nielsen said that they only use local suppliers who provide quality grade product for home and business owners.

“It’s important to support local livelihood,” said Nielsen, adding that giving back to the community is a must as well.

“Though Christmas has already come and gone, for the past seven years we’ve provided a truck for the Lions Club of Nanoose for their annual Christmas tree-chipping, all donations going to a charity chosen by the Lions Club,” said Nielsen.
